Why Wellbeing & Safety exists
Agriculture has the highest fatal injury rate of any major industry sector and a documented mental health burden. This module manages the safety side — risk assessments, safe systems of work, incident recording, machinery and livestock hazards — and, separately and carefully, signposts to established support organisations. It never diagnoses and it never gates support behind a paywall.
HSE figures for agriculture, forestry and fishing have recorded 23 fatal injuries to workers in a single year at a rate of 8.77 per 100,000 workers, around twenty-two times the all-industry rate, with 40 per cent of fatalities aged 60 or over and leading causes being falls from height, vehicle overturns and machinery entanglement. Survey research across the farming community has reported that around 36 per cent are probably or possibly depressed and that 19 per cent know someone who has attempted to take their own life.
